At Balsall Common Dental Practice we are committed to providing the very best in dental care.

In dental matters, prevention is always better than cure. In line with this philosophy we offer a SMILE PROTECTION PLAN designed to focus on prevention.

Preventive dentistry is the modern way of reducing the amount of dental treatment necessary to maintain a healthy mouth. Your dentist and hygienist will work together with you to prevent and manage the two major causes of tooth loss…decay and gum disease.

There are 4 plans to suit different prevention requirements. Your dentist or hygienist will recommend the plan which best suits your individual needs. For example, people more prone to gum disease or tooth staining would benefit from a plan that includes more time with the hygienist.

You can swap between plans at any time and can cancel membership with just 1 months notice.

Benefits of membership:

• Membership covers the cost of routine examinations and preventative hygienist visits.
• If members attend regularly, as advised, the plan will save them money compared to paying for these visits as they go along.
• Members benefit from a 10% discount from any additional treatment including cosmetic treatment.
• Spreading the cost of routine dental visits by monthly direct debit is easier than having to pay in a lump sum.
• Unlike many dental schemes, SMILE PROTECTION PLAN does not require you to undertake lengthy or expensive treatment to become 'dentally fit' before joining.
• As a member of SMILE PROTECTION PLAN you only pay for the dental services you expect to receive. You do not pay in advance to insure against costs of treatment which you may never require.

Membership of all plans covers:

• 2 examination visits per year including oral cancer checks
• Up to 4 small x-rays per year
• Up to 2 emergency appointments per year (during normal opening hours)
• 10% discount from any other required treatment^*
  

Plus:

• Smile Plan 1 includes 2 standard hygienist appointments per year
• Smile Plan 2 includes 2 extended hygienist appointments per year
• Smile Plan 3 includes 4 standard hygienist appointments per year
• Smile Plan 4 includes 4 extended hygienist appointments per year

^* The 10% discount offer cannot be taken if opting for our extended payment terms

An integral part of our preventative philosophy is to make the most of visits to our hygienists.

They have three main roles:

• Preventing and treating gum disease -the most common reason for tooth loss.
• Teaching you how best to prevent disease and problems yourself.
• Removing harmful tartar and unsightly stain build-up.

Tips for a healthy mouth:

• Watch the number of sugary snacks and drinks you have between meals
• Thoroughly brush for 2 minutes at least twice a day
• Use a toothbrush with a small head
• Use a toothbrush with medium textured nylon bristles
• Use a small amount of fluoride toothpaste
• Remember to concentrate on the area where teeth meet gums
• Clean between your teeth daily using floss, tape or special brushes.
• If necessary, use disclosing tablets to help identify areas of the mouth which need more attention
